The production of the documentary “Si faccia foco et luminari” confirmed the strong collaboration between directors Daniele Li Volsi and Massimo Palmigiano. This collaboration began in 2021 and has since led them to create various visual projects.
The idea of producing the documentary for the celebrations of the Most Holy Crucifix of Monreale was from the very start united in the desire to create something unique and original.
Thus, within the broader project “Cùntu – visual tellers”, the documentary “Si faccia foco et luminari” was born, the result of more than 30 hours of filming. It tells the story of the cult of the Most Holy Crucifix of Monreale, from its origins to the present day, through the testimonies of those who experienced it and who still live the feast with passion today.
In addition to the detailed narrative, the documentary also features original documents from the 1600s that testify to the birth of the cult, photographed and filmed in high definition for the occasion.
The editing, which took over 80 hours across 9 months of production, was an important step in creating as engaging a story as possible. Across its different chapters, the film accompanies the viewer from the descent of the Crucifix from the sanctuary’s chapel, through the entire procession, and finally to its late-night return to the church.
